BREAKING NEWS FOR SWCHA MEMBERS!!

A message from President Kerry Scruggs

I hope this finds all of our members and potential members doing well and enjoying the April showers and soon to be May flowers! Tyler will be blooming in roses soon!

Many of you know that our plans for this year's conference included enjoying the flowers and events in Tyler this coming fall. Many of us have also been faced with hard business and personal decisions due to the changing landscape of the economy and pressing budget issues. Most Institutions of Higher Education have incurred budget cuts which includes a reduction in travel, while some have had to implement a reduction in force in order to continue operating.

The SWCHA annual conference has always been a wonderful venue for professional camaraderie as well as acquiring continuing education. After much discussion and careful consideration, the SWCHA Executive Committee has decided to forego the SWCHA 2009 conference this year due to the economic strain that has been placed on many institutions and individuals. The decision to cancel the SWCHA annual conference was a difficult one to make; however, it will allow SWCHA to preserve its budget so that the 2010 Conference will be a great success! Attendees will have the opportunity to convene and collaborate with our colleagues in the Rocky Mountain College Health Association. President-Elect, Bev Kloeppel is working hard on arrangements for this to occur in New Mexico. So rest up, preserve your budget (makes the boss happy), prepare to submit programs, and save your appetite for some of that wonderful New Mexico Hospitality and food!

If you have questions or concerns please contact me. We will continue to communicate and provide relevant information to you via the website and email blasts - so stay alert! Announcements regarding new Student Representatives and new and upcoming leader to be unveiled soon!
