The Affiliates New Professional Award honors service to the field of college health for three years or less and significant contributions to the institution and/or affiliate.
Awarded to Katherine “Kathy” Mosteller, RN - University of Texas-Austin
Kathy has embraced her work with enthusiasm, learning all she can about college health and coupling that with the knowledge and clinical experience that she brings to the position.
Kathy made the move to college health after many years of nursing. As a seasoned professional, she is very knowledgeable, yet her years of practice have not impeded her ability to have fresh new ideas; she also has a unique ability to be both creative and highly organized. Kathy is currently serving as the nurse manager for three general medicine clinics at the University of Texas-Austin, where she also leads a clinical volunteer program. Under Kathy’s guidance, the program has expanded from 30 volunteers to 50 and become more structured; students in the program have increased exposure to the healthcare field and the ability to better hone and apply their skills. Kathy has worked hard to ensure that this program provides intensive, comprehensive orientation and skills training that is unsurpassed by most other clinical volunteer offerings. With her keen sense of humor and ability to think critically, Kathy is a vital part of her school’s health service.
